Squirrels will generally have one or two litters per year. The number of offspring from these litters will depend on the species. Although the young are born without fur, blind and without teeth, they grow quickly to achieve the appearance we know.
Their diet varies according to habitat and season: cones of conifers and nuts (acorns, hazelnuts) which constitute their main food source, buds, flowers and fruits of a wide variety. At the end of summer, they can collect fruits in caches and contribute to the dispersal of seeds when they are not collecting these food resources.
