Why to buy a doghouse?

A dog house gives your dog shelter when he is outside your house. Dogs spend a lot of time outside. It is important that they have a safe place to take refuge.

If you want your dog to sleep outside the house, the dog house becomes essential for the health of your pet.

The dog has a personality

I have dedicated most of my life to dogs. Dogs are not just a pet for me. The dog is a partner, a guardian and a companion etc. The dog is not just an animal, it has a personality. Believe me, they have their own nature and mood. Be it any breed of dog, they also have their feelings, pains, problems, wishes, etc. They are sentient beings – like us. On the other hand, let’s not forget that the dog is an animal – a beast. Yes, even the cute little Yorkshire! 🙂

Your dog - Your responsibility

Moreover, we must know that we humans are fully responsible for it. Throughout their lives, we are responsible for them and we cannot apologize. You are responsible! For everything he can do or what can happen to him. At least by underestimating a situation.

There are no bad dogs, just bad owners

Don’t underestimate choosing a dog breed. If you do not have the experience, time, physical condition, finally, financial resources to ensure proper care of the dog. Don’t get huge, dominant breeds!

Sometimes it is beneficial not to have experience

When choosing a dog breed, you can ask more questions and you will have a better idea whether this dog breed is right for you or not. The worst thing you can do is think you already know dogs. This is the moment where mistakes start.

Believe me, I have been active with dogs for over 20 years. I have studied many books on dogs, I spent several years at the dog training center, I am in permanent contact with cynologists, professionals, breeders. The only thing I can say about dogs is that they can always surprise us. 🙂

Be responsible!

Think carefully before taking your dog. Are you able to take care of him and provide him with everything he needs for his happy life? Don’t underestimate it and take care of your dog responsibly! He will pay you back several times over and will make your life and his life easier.

Why do you want a dog?

The basic question is why do I want to buy a dog. Each breed of dog has these different characteristics. On the environment, approach, education and care… The approach differs for breeds of hunting, guarding or companion dogs. Most dog owners primarily buy companion dogs. However, this does not mean that you cannot purchase a hunting dog or another breed. Just remember how much time you are able to invest in the dog and what you are willing to sacrifice for him.

Your dog was left alone at home

Have you ever had that feeling, when you leave the house for a while and a strong storm passes? At that moment, it is good to know that he had the possibility of hiding from a violent storm or other danger. I don’t want to scare you, but try to think of all the dangers that could happen to your dog ex.: children on the street, neighbors, uncaring people…

Well insulated dog house will help against excessive noise

A well-insulated doghouse will also help against fireworks and excessive noise. In fact, most insulating materials also reduce noise, more insulation is better and more effective.

The dog must be able to escape or hide

Do not lock your dog in a dog house equipped with bars, etc. Dog houses with bars are designed only to keep your dog under your control for a short period of time.

If you need, for some reason, to limit your dog’s movements, use a sufficiently long chain (at least 3.5 to 5 m long) or another restraint system available on the market. He will be able to move around or return to his dog house – safe place.

A suitable solution is a kennel

A suitable solution is a kennel, of the correct size and depending on the breed of the dog. In a number of European countries, the minimum size of kennels is already defined in the law on the protection of domestic animals. Check if your country is not among them. On the topic of how to choose a dog kennel we will write in another article.

Toughen up your dog

Hunting and guard dogs (working dogs) must be resistant to the cold. The dog cannot thrive if he spends all the time at your house, near the fireplace, and then you take him hunting in winter. Likewise, when a guard dog is kept warm at home during the week, and then you leave it in an outdoor area to protect your business on the weekend. In this case, teach him to sleep outside and provide him with adequate shelter in case of frost, rain, etc. The solution is a well-insulated doghouse, which will give it the necessary protection.

He may have health problems

If the dog is exposed to extreme temperature variations, it does not create its proper winter coat. It’s the same when you take the dog home in the evening and during the day you leave it in the garden in winter. Without a suitable dog house, this part of the day when you are not at home he may not survive.

Older Dogs and Pregnant Dogs Have Different Needs

Do you already have a dog or have you just bought one? Remember that one day your cute puppy will get older and have completely different needs. Therefore, from the very beginning, the choice of a dog house is as important as the choice of the dog itself.

Older dogs can no longer effectively warm up their dog houses with their own bodies. You should therefore think about a well-insulated dog house from the start, so that in summer and winter it provides the necessary insulation against high or low temperatures.

Puppies and nursing dogs pose immense physical stress

Likewise, with pregnant, nursing dogs and newborn puppies. As with any future mother, the period of pregnancy until the birth of the puppies and breastfeeding constitutes immense physical and mental stress. Even bigger than for you! Therefore, you should give her a safe and quiet place so that she feels safe and comfortable – where she is already used to.

If you are not sure

Generally speaking, when temperatures are close to 0°C, you should consider whether your dog can tolerate low temperatures. If you are not sure – it is better to offer him a warm place in your house.

Also, don’t forget to eat good food before and during the winter. Thanks to it, the dog can create its good winter coat.

Attention !!!

If you are not sure whether your dog is resistant to extreme temperatures, do not leave him outside, even if he has a quality insulated doghouse. Small breed dogs such as Yorkshire, Chihuahua and many others are not suitable for living outside in winter!

Geographical location and natural elements

Geographic location influences the choice of a dog house. When purchasing a doghouse, consider whether you live in the mountains, where winter lasts several months a year, or in the plains, where most of the weather or outdoor temperatures are below freezing.

The snow cover on a doghouse weighs something and is another reason to choose a good quality doghouse. I don’t like seeing photos in the newspaper or on the Internet, another dog died thanks to a poorly made “kennel” or in a kennel, due to the weight of snow on the roof.

Strong and frequent winds

If you live in an area with frequent strong winds, you should consider a doghouse with the entrance hatch/an interior partition. In case of strong wind and rain, thanks to the interior partition, you will protect your dog from these elements.

Do you need a dog house for more dogs or custom made?

In this case, you have no choice but to order a doghouse or make it yourself.

Ask the breeder what your pet’s requirements are, they should be able to advise you on a dog house that best suits your dog’s needs. Taking into account the many factors that influence the choice, such as the type od a doghouse, size, location, choice of materials, etc.
